Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Network Engineer to join a local client of ours. This candidate will be responsible for finalizing the design and implementation of a BGP network.

Required Skills:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

5+ years of experience in network engineering, administration, or a similar role

Strong understanding of modern networking protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, TCP/IP, VLANs, MPLS, etc.)

Hands-on experience with Cisco, Fortinet, Palo Alto, Sonicwall, or equivalent network hardware. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.

Core Technical Requirements

  • BGP Expertise: Ability to design, configure, and maintain BGP routing across multiple peers, including route reflection, policy controls, and failover scenarios.
  • Network Architecture: Design scalable, redundant ISP-grade networks across core, distribution, and edge layers.
  • Security: Knowledge of securing BGP sessions (MD5 authentication, prefix filtering, RPKI), firewall integration, and DDoS mitigation.
  • Protocols & ISP Operations: OSPF, IS-IS, MPLS, VPNs, QoS, IPv4/IPv6 management, peering agreements, DNS/DHCP/IPAM.

Day-to-Day may include:

  • Hands-On Implementation: Configure routers/switches, troubleshoot, and operationalize the design.
  • Vendor Experience: Cisco IOS-XR, Palo Alto NGFW, Infoblox, Nutanix, or comparable platforms.
  • Monitoring & Documentation: NOC dashboards, SNMP/NetFlow, detailed runbooks, and network diagrams.
  • Collaboration: Work effectively across city departments (Public Safety, Public Works, Schools, Libraries) and external providers.

Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will start on the 31st day of employment and include medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as HSA, FSA, and DCFSA account options, and 401k retirement account access with employer matching. Employees in this role are also entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
