Position Summary

The Senior Community Organizer will play a central role in building CAIR-CT’s grassroots power by mobilizing Muslim communities and allies around issues of civil rights, equity, and justice. The organizer will develop leadership among community members, design and lead campaigns, and strengthen partnerships with mosques, student groups, and interfaith and civic organizations statewide.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, strong relationship builder, and experienced campaigner with a passion for empowering marginalized communities and a proven ability to move people to action.

Key Responsibilities

Community Mobilization & Leadership Development

  • Build and sustain relationships with mosques, community leaders, students, and advocacy groups across Connecticut.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor volunteers and emerging leaders to take on leadership roles in campaigns and events.
  • Organize town halls, rallies, and educational workshops on issues impacting the Muslim community.
  • Develop advocacy toolkits, talking points, and action guides for community use.

Campaigns & Advocacy

  • Plan and execute local and statewide campaigns related to civil rights, Islamophobia, hate crimes, education equity, and foreign policy advocacy.
  • Work collaboratively with policy staff to identify campaign goals and strategies.
  • Coordinate grassroots lobbying efforts, including meetings with elected officials and mobilizing turnout for legislative hearings.

Coalition Building & Partnerships

  • Represent CAIR-CT in coalitions and alliances with other faith-based, immigrant, and racial justice organizations.
  • Build long-term relationships with interfaith and civic partners to advance shared objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for joint advocacy and rapid response actions.

Events & Public Engagement

  • Support CAIR-CT events such as Lobby Day, Muslim Capitol Day, press conferences, and community dinners.
  • Coordinate with communications staff to ensure consistent messaging, storytelling, and social media visibility for campaigns.
  • Serve as a visible representative of CAIR-CT at community and interfaith gatherings.

Data & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, contacts, and campaign metrics.
  • Prepare regular reports on community engagement outcomes and impact.

Qualifications

Required:

  • 4+ years of experience in community organizing, issue-based campaigns, or civic engagement work.
  • Demonstrated success mobilizing volunteers and developing grassroots leaders.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
  • Experience working with diverse communities and cultural competency in Muslim or immigrant communities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work flexible hours (some evenings/weekends required).
  • Commitment to CAIR-CT’s mission and values of justice, equity, and human rights.

Preferred:

  • Background in faith-based or civil rights organizing.
  • Knowledge of Connecticut’s political landscape and local advocacy networks.
  • Experience using digital organizing tools (e.g., EveryAction, Mobilize, NationBuilder, or similar CRM platforms).
  • Fluency in Arabic, Urdu, Farsi, or another language spoken in Connecticut’s Muslim communities is a plus.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $65,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience.
