Shift Details

PRN weekday shifts as needed with 8:30 am - 5:00 pm hours. No weekends! PRN requirement is a minimum of three shifts per six week schedule. Eligibility to participate in our 401K program with generous match after 90 days of service!

General Statement of Duties

The Registered Nurse PASS serves as main point of contact for the PASS Program for surgery schedulers, Physicians, and Support Services staff. The position coordinates and evaluates preoperative screening for assigned patients in a timely fashion and establishes a staff friendly, efficient, preoperative process for patients having surgery in OrthoIndy Hospital facilities.

Essential Duties
  1. Speaks with patients via telephone to complete preoperative health assessment, including medication, medical and surgical history. Attends to patient needs and gathering complete and appropriate medical information to ensure timely preoperative scheduling. Answers and or follows-up patient questions and concerns.
  2. Maintains complete communication with Physician staff regarding PASS Program requests and scheduled appointments. Documents appointments in EMR under surgery scheduling communicating both date of appointments and date clearance received and completed.
  3. Provides instruction, information, and counseling to patients and their families as needed.
  4. Utilizes policy and guidelines to determine additional medical clearance or lab work indicated.
  5. Responsible for daily review of requests, faxes, and completed clearances.
  6. Reviews complex or unclear medical information with physicians and documents actions taken in EMR.
  7. Assists with the coordination of care, initiation of care plans and specific interventions as indicated. Provides oversight, support and collaborates with licensed practical nurses as assigned.
  8. Supports other team members which may include providing assistance during an influx of patient volume or based on department need.
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred from a nationally accredited nursing program
  • Registered Nurse license in the state of Indiana required
  • BLS certification required
  • 2-4 years of related experience required, 4-6 years preferred
