The human resource benefits clerk is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with senior management with a wide range of personnel and related projects, duties, and functions usually associated with the field of Human Resources Management, but within rules, regulations, and guidelines established by Federal, State, County, and local governments. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employees regarding benefit inquiries, providing clear and courteous answers and resolving problems related to coverage, claims, and enrollment. Compose and distribute various benefits-related communications, memos, and forms, and act as a liaison between employees, insurance providers, and other benefits vendors to facilitate claims processing and issue resolution. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: Benefits Administration & Enrollment: Administer employee health plans, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement and deferred comp plan. Process all new hire enrollments, qualifying life event changes, and terminations in a timely and accurate manner through the HRIS and with insurance carriers. Conduct new hire benefits orientation sessions and annual open enrollment presentations to educate employees on their options. Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee benefits data and personnel files (both physical and electronic), ensuring strict confidentiality. Perform regular data entry into the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and benefits management software. Process required documents for payroll deductions and work closely with the payroll to ensure proper and timely deductions. Maintain employee insurance and medical files. Processes, maintains, tracks, and reports on all required benefits documentation for the on-boarding benefit process. Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database. Must be able to exercise independent judgment, and confidentiality, and must perform all duties with minimal supervision. Employee may be required to work irregular hours, overtime, attend job-related meetings and job fairs in and out of state, and perform all other duties as assigned.
