Academic Obstetric Anesthesiologist role serving as Medical Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota, combining part-time administrative leadership (.10 FTE) with clinical duties (.9 cFTE) to total 1.0 FTE. Responsibilities include program leadership, quality and operations oversight, faculty and resident mentorship, clinical service at a Level IV NICU site, and advancing clinical, educational, and research initiatives. Requires board-eligible/certified anesthesiology training, medical licensure/DEA eligibility, leadership experience, and experience in obstetric anesthesia techniques (eg, TAP blocks).
Director, Obstetric Anesthesiology (Medical Director Role – OB Only)
The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Minnesota is seeking a full-time board-certified/eligible Obstetric Anesthesiologist to serve as Medical Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology. This position is focused exclusively on clinical leadership, quality, and operations within Obstetric Anesthesiology.

Assignment and Duties
The appointment for the Medical Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology will be Part Time .10 FTE, which equates to 8 hours per pay period (4 hours per week). The appointment for your clinical service will be Part Time .9 cFTE for a total FTE of Full Time 1.0 FTE.

About the Department:

About the Division:
The Obstetric Division is charged with providing analgesia for labor and delivery, anesthesia for operative Cesarean Section and pain management for postoperative deliveries. Anesthesia practitioners offer patients an array of options including continuous epidural infusions, patient-controlled epidural analgesia, and intrathecal analgesia for labor and delivery, as well as epidural anesthesia, spinal anesthesia and combined spinal-epidural anesthesia for operative delivery. In addition, the department routinely provides Transversus Abdominis Plane blocks for postoperative analgesia following cesarean deliveries.
The Division is actively involved in clinical research in such avant-garde areas as the use of liposomal encapsulated local anesthetics for long-lasting pain relief. The Division is committed to the concept of patient-oriented/family-centric care to provide an atmosphere that focuses on the celebratory and joyous aspects of childbirth and minimizes the hospital component to the greatest degree possible.

Pay and Benefits:
This role is dually employed by University of Minnesota Physicians and the University of Minnesota. Total salary is market competitive and based on AAMC salary benchmarks. Clinical salary, aligned with clinical effort, is provided through M Physicians. Total annual compensation ranges from $420,000 to $575,000, inclusive of base pay plus expected incentive pay commensurate with experience and qualifications. The salary from the University is dependent upon the academic effort of the person hired.
