Job Description
General Statement:
Under the direction of the Program Supervisor, performs responsible tasks in providing comprehensive services to Genesee Health System clients in the designated program, designed to meet the individualized needs of the clients. Services may relate to housing, entitlements, skill building and ongoing peer support; responsible for significant liaison and consultation with family, agencies, guardians and natural support systems. Provides activities in partnership with the clients served for the specific purpose of achieving increased community inclusion and participation, independence and productivity. Minimum Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, ability to read and write, AND current or previous recipient of verifiable mental health services, substance use disorder services (SUD), (must attest to remission or recovery with no abuse for at least one year), or developmental disability services. Additional Requirements:Must be Young Adult, age18- 28 years old, with lived experience who received mental health services as a youth.
Willing and able to self-identify as a person who has or is receiving behavioral health services and is prepared to use that experience in helping others.
Youth Peer Support Specialist must participate in and complete the approved MDHHS training curriculum and must obtain certification approved by the State of Michigan as a Youth Peer Support Specialist within one (1) year of employment.
Must have a valid driver’s license, current insurance and the use of a vehicle during program hours. Must be willing to work weekend, holidays and irregular hours. Ability to physically perform the tasks.
Preferences:Experience receiving services as a youth, in complex, child serving systems is preferred (behavioral health, child welfare, juvenile justice, special education, etc.)
Computer knowledge and data input ability.
