American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position requiring strong PICU and ventilator experience and an active ID or compact license.

\n \n Responsibilities\n
  • Position is in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) within an acute care setting
  • 12-bed unit with typical census of 4 in summer and 6 in winter
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2
  • Patient population includes pediatric patients with trach/vents, DKA, respiratory conditions, surgical cases (trachs, g-tubes, shunts, hernia repairs, seizures), and no cardiac cases
  • Night shifts (7p-7a) with a weekend requirement of 5 shifts in 6 weeks
  • Floating required, including to pediatric, NICU, and sitter assignments
  • Unit uses EpicCare Inpatient EMR; Epic experience preferred
  • May allow up to 5 shifts in a block based on unit needs
  • No on-call requirements
  • PICU RNs are responsible for caring for critically ill pediatric patients with complex medical and surgical needs
  • Charge nurse is available on each shift and does not take patient assignments
  • No nurse aides or patient care techs are present on the unit
  • Respiratory therapists are available and RNs may be required to troubleshoot vent, bubble CPAP, and BiPAP equipment
  • Pediatrician is in-house during the day and may take call from home at night
  • Orientation consists of two 12-hour unit-specific shifts
  • Scrub color is not restricted – any color may be worn
  • Holiday coverage is expected for at least one holiday during the contract
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

  • Active ID or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PICU experience required
  • Current BLS and PALS certifications required
  • Experience with EVDs, tracheostomy, and ventilators required
  • Must have experience titrating drips such as propofol, fentanyl, and epinephrine
  • Experience with Epic and Alaris equipment preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
  • Driver’s license required for consideration
  • Two professional references required: one from a supervisor within the last 12 months, and one from a peer or supervisor within the last 3 years
