Job Title: Registered Nurse Behavioral Health Intake Clinician
Employment Type: Full-Time - Nights
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Behavioral Health Intake Clinician plays a crucial role in collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders to assess and identify patients suitable for admission to the Behavioral Health Unit. This position involves conducting crisis evaluations as outlined in the essential job functions.
Key Responsibilities:
Demonstrate the ability to operate independently in a dynamic hospital setting.
Exhibit flexibility in scheduling to accommodate organizational needs.
Possess a solid understanding of legal considerations related to assessments and admissions, including Voluntary vs. Involuntary status, such as 72 Hour Holds, EMTALA, and Mental Inquest Warrant processes as per state regulations.
Build and maintain strong relationships with both internal and external clients while ensuring patient and family confidentiality, delivering sensitive, respectful, and compassionate service consistently.
Work effectively with children, adolescents, adults (18+), and geriatric patients facing mental health challenges and acute psychiatric crises.
Exhibit strong verbal and written communication abilities.
Conduct comprehensive crisis assessments, including mental status evaluations, suicide and violence risk assessments, substance abuse evaluations, and preliminary diagnoses.
Have familiarity with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5) or the most current version.
Understand mental health issues and developmental stages.
Present clinical findings effectively to the attending psychiatrist and charge nurse.
Coordinate the transfer of patients from other healthcare facilities.
Exhibit excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Travel requirement is approximately 5% of the time.
Perform additional duties as assigned.

Attend all mandatory in-services and staff meetings.
Represent the organization positively and professionally.
Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Communicate the mission, ethics, and goals of the organization, along with the department's focus statement.
Maintain current licensure and certification for the position, if applicable.
Consistently demonstrate customer service skills to patients, physicians, visitors, employees, and others.
Follow departmental and organizational policies regarding health, safety, security, and hazardous materials.
Conduct job responsibilities in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws, ensuring patient confidentiality and reporting any issues to the appropriate personnel immediately.
Perform job duties in compliance with standards outlined in the organization's Code of Conduct, policies, applicable federal and state laws, and relevant standards.
