TENURE-TRACK ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN INTERDISCIPLINARY ART Williams College: Art Location: Williams College, Williamstown, MA Open Date: Aug 26, 2025 Deadline: Nov 12, 2025 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description The Williams College Department of Art invites applications for a full time, tenure-track position in interdisciplinary art, beginning fall 2026, at the rank of assistant professor. We seek a professionally active artist whose practice bridges multiple media and demonstrates a deep engagement with both technical skill and critical inquiry. Areas of expertise would ideally include two or more of the following: sculpture, performance, animation, and painting/drawing. We also welcome expanded and experimental approaches to these media. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work explores the intersections of art with larger social frameworks and other disciplines. The position will have a courseload of two classes per semester and require service to the department and the college. Williams College provides a private studio and professional development funds for tenure-track faculty. We seek applicants who demonstrate a capacity to contribute to an innovative curriculum that resonates with students who have a wide range of artistic interests and liberal arts backgrounds. Candidates should be comfortable working and thinking across media and disciplines. This position will also support our growing joint Studio Art and Art History major, which attracts students eager to synthesize creative and intellectual work across disciplines. Our area in the northern Berkshires is home to a number of world-class museums and arts institutions, including Mass MoCA and the Clark Art Institute and will be home to a new building for our Williams College Museum of Art. It is an exciting time to join our growing contemporary art community here. Qualifications Terminal degree (MA, MFA, or PhD) in studio art or related field. Minimum two years college level teaching after the MA or MFA preferred. An active, professional art practice including a record of exhibitions and projects at the national/international level. Application Instructions A detailed cover letter addressed to 'Search Committee' that explains how your art practice, teaching philosophy, and professional experience aligns with the position. A PDF portfolio that includes 15 to 20 high quality images and/or video links, and contextual information about each work including title, date, size (if applicable), and medium (30 MB limit for entire PDF). Time-based documentation links may be submitted if relevant. During the initial portfolio review, the search committee will consider the first 5 minutes of time-based media that are submitted. A current CV including your contact information (address, email, phone) detailing your artistic practice, exhibition history, and teaching experience. The names and contact information of four references. All applications are due by midnight on November 12, 2025 in Interfolio: Please send requested information only. Extra materials will not be considered. Questions that are not covered by the above information can be directed to administrative assistant Beverly Sylvester at bsylvest@williams.edu.
