Now Hiring Of Counsel Attorney | Federal Criminal Defense & Healthcare Fraud Litigation Watson & Associates, LLC is seeking a highly qualified Federal Criminal Defense Attorney to join our law firm as Of Counsel. This is not an entry-level position. We are only considering attorneys with 5+ years of relevant federal trial experience, especially those with a background in procurement fraud, healthcare fraud defense, False Claims Act litigation, and white-collar investigations.
This role is ideal for former DOJ attorneys, AUSAs, or federal enforcement lawyers seeking part-time work on high-stakes federal cases. It is also well-suited for semi-retired attorneys or independent litigators looking to expand their case portfolio without the burden of a full-time schedule.

Key Responsibilities - Provide legal defense and strategic counsel in federal healthcare fraud and federal white-collar criminal cases
- Handle active investigations, litigation support, and courtroom representation as needed
- Draft legal memoranda, motions, responses to subpoenas and civil investigative demands (CIDs)
- Prepare clients for federal interviews, subpoenas, or grand jury proceedings
- Collaborate with internal legal teams and partners on case theory and defense strategy
- Participate in settlement negotiations or pre-indictment discussions with federal agencies
- Maintain accurate and compliant legal documentation and client files
Qualifications - Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school
- Licensed and in good standing with a U.S. State Bar and licensed to practice before NY Federal District Court
- Minimum 6 years of experience in federal criminal defense, DOJ litigation, or prosecutorial roles
- Substantial knowledge of:
- False Claims Act (FCA)
- Qui Tam litigation
- Healthcare fraud
- Procurement or contract fraud
- Civil and criminal investigations involving DOJ, OIG, SEC, or other federal agencies
- Strong litigation, courtroom, and negotiation skills
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard legal research tools
Preferred Background
- Former Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA), Department of Justice attorney, or federal enforcement official
- Military JAG Corps or equivalent white-collar litigation experience
- Experience with high-dollar government contract fraud cases or administrative fraud proceedings
- Comfortable with fast-paced case turnarounds, federal deadlines, and direct client interaction
