Job Description

The Opportunity:

Our client, a fast-growing and operationally active mining company, is seeking an experienced Mine Site Controller to oversee finance and accounting operations at one of their key sites in California. This is a site-based leadership role, reporting to the Finance Manager, and is ideal for a CPA with strong mining experience who thrives in a hands-on, high-impact environment.

As the Mine Site Controller, you'll lead a small team and collaborate with both site and corporate stakeholders to ensure robust financial reporting, internal controls, and operational forecasting. You’ll play a key role in enhancing processes, enabling data-driven decision-making, and supporting the broader finance strategy.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing a team of mine site accountants and overseeing daily financial operations.
  • Leading the preparation of timely and accurate monthly financial statements.
  • Driving the month-end and year-end close processes at the site level.
  • Coordinating audit activities and ensuring compliance with internal controls.
  • Preparing annual budgets and rolling forecasts, analyzing performance, and identifying variances.
  • Supporting the implementation of new ERP systems and financial planning tools.
  • Ensuring all site-level transactions are accurate, complete, and properly recorded.
  • Working cross-functionally with internal teams and external partners to improve financial processes.
  • Developing and maintaining strong financial policies and procedures in line with company standards.
  • Contributing to the preparation of management and Board-level financial reports.
  • Providing actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership to improve site performance.

What You’ll Need To Be Successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related discipline.
  • CPA designation (or in progress).
  • 7–10+ years of finance and accounting experience, with strong preference for mining industry exposure.
  • Deep knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP and experience with financial reporting and consolidations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and work effectively in a site-based, matrixed organization.
  • Expert-level Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems and ERP platforms.
  • Strong analytical thinking, communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment with a compressed workweek schedule.
