Job Details

Pay Rate: $15.50/hr

Weekly hours: Part-Time, 25- 30 hours each week scheduled.

Schedule: This role operates on a rotating bi-weekly schedule: working one week, Monday through Friday, followed by the next week off.

SUMMARY:

This position performs courier and delivery services for Wake County facilities. The Mail Courier is responsible for the safe, secure, and timely transportation of interoffice mail, U.S. Mail (including Certified Mail), pharmaceuticals, medical records, and other designated items between County facilities, clinics, partner agencies, post offices, and the Mail Center in accordance with established routes, schedules, and applicable regulations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs all assigned duties in a professional manner in order to reflect the highest integrity of the Company and Wake County.
  • Reports to the designated starting location at the scheduled route start time and completes assigned routes; ending times may vary based on volume, stops, and unforeseen delays.
  • Operates courier routes in accordance with GSA schedules, which may change to meet County needs, new facilities, or operational requirements.
  • Picks up and delivers interoffice mail from the Mail Center to County facilities and collects outgoing interoffice mail from facilities for return to the Mail Center.
  • Picks up U.S. Mail from designated Post Office locations, transports mail to the Mail Center for processing, and delivers mail to County facilities in compliance with all U.S. Postal Service regulations.
  • Delivers Certified U.S. Mail, obtains required signatures, and returns signed documentation to the Mail Center in accordance with established procedures and postal regulations.
  • Transports pharmaceutical samples between the Wake County Pharmacy and designated clinics or partner agency locations using locked delivery containers; retrieves and returns pharmaceutical delivery bags as required.
  • Transports medical records in locked containers between clinics and designated locations, ensuring confidentiality and secure handling at all times.
  • Completes special delivery requests as assigned, including non-routine deliveries outside of standard daily routes.
  • Ensures all routine courier work is completed during the assigned daily route; avoids unnecessary return trips unless directed.
  • Safely loads, unloads, secures, and transports packages, mail, and containers to prevent damage, loss, or unauthorized access.
  • Maintains accurate documentation, logs, and chain-of-custody records as required for mail, pharmaceuticals, and medical records.
  • Operates Company or County vehicles safely and in compliance with traffic laws, safety policies, and operating procedures.
  • Reports delays, route issues, safety concerns, vehicle concerns, or delivery discrepancies to a supervisor promptly.
  • Reports to work on time and dressed in company uniform, including employee badge, as required.
  • Follows all company policies including safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable federal, state, and County regulations.
  • Works a flexible schedule as required to meet operational needs.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma is preferred. Six months of related experience is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE:
  • Able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions in English.
  • Able to apply common-sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions.
  • Knowledge of safe driving practices and route navigation.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive materials with discretion.
  • Ability to comply with U.S. Postal Service regulations and County procedures.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (as required by assignment).
