Job Description

Overview We are seeking a motivated, detail-oriented individual to join our dynamic and growing Specialty Insurance team as a Junior Underwriter, focused on renters and travel insurance products. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in risk assessment, a passion for customer service, and hands-on experience with underwriting policies in the realms of renters and travel insurance. As a Junior Underwriter, you will play a key role in evaluating applications, supporting senior underwriters, and ensuring our portfolio remains both competitive and robust. This role will require a hybrid work schedule in any of our US AmTrust Offices. Responsibilities Review and evaluate insurance applications for renters and travel insurance coverage, ensuring adherence to company guidelines and industry regulations. Analyze coverage, claims history, and supporting documentation to assess risk and determine acceptability of applications. Work collaboratively with brokers, agents, and internal departments to gather additional information or clarify details as needed. Prepare clear, accurate documentation of underwriting decisions and maintain meticulous records for audit and compliance purposes. Assist senior underwriters in the assessment of complex or high-value risks, learning advanced underwriting techniques and decision-making strategies. Calculate premiums, establish terms and conditions, and issue quotations based on risk profiles, company pricing structures, and market trends. Identify and flag any potential issues related to fraud, moral hazard, or non-disclosure, escalating concerns to the appropriate parties. Stay informed about changes to regulations, product offerings, and market developments within the specialty insurance sector, particularly as they relate to renters and travel insurance. Provide exceptional customer service to both internal and external stakeholders, responding to inquiries promptly and professionally. Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing ideas for process enhancements and participating in training sessions and team meetings. Help analyze portfolio performance data and assist in preparing reports for management review. Participate in special projects or cross-functional initiatives as assigned by management. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related field (or equivalent work experience). At least 1-2 years of experience in insurance underwriting, with a demonstrated focus on renters and travel insurance products. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, evaluate risk, and make sound, evidence-based decisions. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and concise manner. High attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills. Proficiency with insurance software, policy administration systems, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Capacity to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Strong customer service orientation with a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines without compromising quality. Ethical judgment, discretion, and respect for confidentiality in handling sensitive information. Insurance industry certifications are an asset. Familiarity with the unique risks, exposures, and regulatory requirements of renters and travel insurance products.
