REPORTS TO: Custodial Supervisor / Facilities Manager

Position Summary:
Responsible for ensuring the building's interior is maintained in a healthy, safe, and presentable manner. Perform heavy cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish, as well as performing preventive maintenance activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Basic computer skills and understanding
Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming.
Gather and empty trash.
Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications.
Clean windows, glass partitions, or mirrors.
Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
Requisition supplies or equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Dust furniture, walls, machines, or equipment.
Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
Understanding safety practices and use of floor cleaning machines.
Must carry a radio and respond to radio calls at all times during their work hours.
Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s service to its guests by offering suggestions and participating as an active member of a work team.
Provides responsive, meaningful, and compassionate service to all guests as outlined in the organization's Guest Service Charter.
Applies the principles of The Animal Foundation’s Core Values toward the goal of bettering self, the organization, and others.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Equivalent to a High School diploma, preferred
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of guest service.
Standard administrative practices and procedures, including record-keeping systems and the operation of office equipment, computers, and associated software.
Practices, methods and terminology related to the various areas involved in building and facility maintenance.
Applicable laws, codes and regulations.
Computer applications related to the work.
Safety principles, practices and equipment related to the work.
Techniques for dealing effectively with co-workers and the public, in person and over the telephone.
Correct business English, including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
Skill in:
Understanding basic instructions, written and oral.
Maintaining accurate records of work performed.
Using initiative and independent judgment within established policy guidelines.
Communicating effectively in written and oral forms.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
Physical ability and mobility to work in a typical office environment. Strength to lift and/or move materials weighing up to 10 pounds frequently, 25 pounds occasionally. Vision to read printed materials. Stamina to sit and work with a computer for an extended period of time. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone. Team members are continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and occasional work outdoors for extended periods of time while exposed to cold and extremely hot temperatures.
