Housing Community Service Officer – San Jose State University San Jose State University’s University Police Department has an immediate opening for a Housing Community Service Officer. The position supports the safety and wellbeing of students, guests, and staff across residence halls and apartment communities. The role includes nights and weekends on a rotating schedule. Work Schedule Day Shift: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and every other Wednesday, 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. Night Shift: Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and every other Wednesday, 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m. Your Day Will Likely Include Perform foot patrols of housing buildings and grounds to maintain safety and visibility. Respond to calls for service, alarms, and emergency situations. Monitor building access systems, CCTV, and fire safety systems. Assist residents, staff, and visitors while encouraging compliance with housing policies. Report hazards, suspicious activity, and maintenance issues. Support University Housing staff and University Police during crises or emergencies. Write clear and accurate incident reports. Participate in safety meetings and training with the University Police Department. Experience and Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent (required). Six months of previous police, security, or military law enforcement experience (preferred); experience in a residential or housing environment preferred. Strong customer service and communication skills. Ability to remain calm and professional in emergencies. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships in a diverse, multicultural community. Salary and Benefits Base pay range: $44,160.00/yr – $55,416.00/yr. Anticipated Hiring Salary: $4,659/month (CSU Salary Range: $3,461 – $5,043/month).
