The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant I (COTA I) will assist Occupational Therapists in execution of therapy programs for persons with neuromotor dysfunction (e.g., children/teens with disorders of the brain, spinal cord, and musculoskeletal system). The incumbent will assist in delivering high-quality care with the goal of facilitating functional independence and occupational engagement to resume family, school, and community life following their course of rehabilitation. This position will participate in intra-disciplinary and interdisciplinary training and clinical programs, maintain appropriate patient records, and may assist with clinical supervision of certified occupational therapy assistant students and therapy aides .

\n\nResponsibilities:\n
  1. Implement established patient treatment plans in the areas of activities of daily living (ADL), fine motor, visual motor, visual perceptual, play, and other developmental skill areas under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist and within the scope of occupational therapy practice.
  2. Communicate effectively with patients, families, referring physicians, and other members of the team to ensure quality care.
  3. Assist Occupational Therapists in patient re-evaluation to prepare for discharge.
  4. Promote patient engagement by facilitating rapport, attention to tasks, and patients' willingness to participate while managing patient behavior appropriately.
  5. Report any changes in patient status or needs to supervising clinician in a timely manner.
  6. Assist in splint fabrication.
  7. Train patients/caregivers on the use of adaptive equipment and teach components of ADL routines.
  8. Participate in intra- disciplinary/interdisciplinary activities and coordinate treatment goals with other team members.
  9. Produce documentation that is thorough; objective; pertinent; organized; free from grammatical and spelling errors; concise; clinically accurate; readable for multiple audiences; and in adherence to Institute, department, American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and Maryland State Occupational Therapy guidelines.
  10. Actively collaborate in inter/intra- disciplinary and supervisory relationships, demonstrating initiative, effective listening, good judgment to manage time and caseload, and communication with peers and supervisor that is professional and respectful.
  11. Recognize and consistently respond in a therapeutic manner to environmental stressors, challenging client behaviors, and the multiple demands of working in a pediatric setting.
  12. Document supervision per Maryland Licensing Board regulations.
  13. Participate in planning and execution of programs for personal and professional growth and development.
\n\nQualifications:\n
  • Must possess and maintain license to practice as an Occupational Therapy Assistant in the state of Maryland.
  • Certificate from American Occupational Therapy Certification Board as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with successful completion of national registration exam.
  • Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in pediatrics and/or rehabilitation and treatment preferred.
\n\nMinimum pay range:\nUSD $55,000.00/Yr.\n\nMaximum pay range:\nUSD $74,000.00/Yr.
