Reports To: DIRECTOR OF FINANCE

DUTIES : Responsible for the entire operation of the bookstore from the day-to-day activities to preparing budgets and mapping out long-term goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess academic and store needs for all resale book and store supply products. Research products and negotiate pricing, quality, and delivery. Generate purchase orders, set pricing for resale, and authorize payment to vendors.
  • Manage and oversee all accounting functions including review of daily sales, entry of cost of items into point-of-sale system, preparation of payables. Monitors monthly sales and makes changes accordingly.
  • Responsible for inventory control.
  • Supervises the Bookstore Floor Manager and hires/supervises student workers.
  • Responsible for budget preparation.
  • Provide retail floor support.
  • Ensures that Web Content and Social Media Posts are up to date. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS:

  • To ensure that the book and non-book item stocking process is closely monitored.
  • To ensure that accounting functions are maintained with integrity and zero errors.
  • To ensure that retail processes function smoothly and that excellent customer service is maintained as a priority.
  • To maintain excellent communication with the College community.
  • Conduct employee evaluations.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Two years to five years of similar or related experience.
  • A college degree.
  • Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and outside the College for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
  • Two to five years’ experience in retail management and buying. Previous bookstore experience is essential. Coursework in accounting, marketing, finance, retail, and small business beneficial.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or retail management preferred. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Computer proficiency and familiarity with word-processing and database software is required (Word, Excel, Outlook, and BookLog helpful). Experience with point of sales cash register and inventory control processes preferred. Familiarity with St. John's College program preferred.
