Overview

Stanford University Department of Materials Science and Engineering invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the junior level (Assistant or untenured Associate Professor). Appointments will be made at a rank commensurate with experience and accomplishment.

Responsibilities

  • Make major contributions to scholarship in materials science and engineering and provide leadership to related academic programs at Stanford.
  • Teach at the graduate and undergraduate level; develop advanced graduate courses in the applicant's research specialty; and establish a world-class research program.
  • Engage in teaching and mentoring of students in a multidisciplinary environment across departments and schools, potentially spanning the Schools of Engineering, Medicine, Doerr School of Sustainability, and Humanities and Sciences.
  • Collaborate with shared resources and facilities at Stanford (e.g., nano@Stanford facilities, Stanford Research Computing Facility, ChEM-H) and with partnering opportunities at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate must have completed, or be completing, a Ph.D. in the advertised field or a closely related one.

  • Letters of recommendation will be requested after candidates are short-listed.
  • Within the research statement (not to exceed 4 pages), describe plans for future research and how those plans might be realized at Stanford; within the teaching statement (not to exceed 1 page), describe your vision of teaching in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and related fields.

Salary and benefits

  • Assistant Professor: 141,247 159,910 USD
  • Associate Professor (untenured): 152,547 191,506 USD

Compensation notes

Stanford provides a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. Final pay is determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, years since terminal degree, field, departmental budget, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
