Come join a team of dedicated staff at an exceptional time for the Smithsonian. In 2024, we launched the Smithsonian Campaign for Our Shared Future, the largest fundraising campaign in the institution’s history. The campaign, which runs through 2026, aims to raise $2.5 billion to support all Smithsonian museums and centers—each with a vision to achieve a better future for all. The Smithsonian is also raising support for a series of signature programs, events and exhibitions to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary in 2026. This position offers exciting opportunities for the successful candidate to make a significant impact on the future of the Smithsonian. There is no better time to join this amazing Institution.
Part of Cooper Hewitt’s Advancement Department, the Sponsorship Manager implements the corporate program, which includes philanthropic, membership and sponsorship revenue towards museum exhibitions, education programs, special events and initiatives, and general operations. The incumbent is responsible for supporting annual contributed revenue goals through prospect qualification; developing, writing, and editing effective pitch materials and requests for support; coordinating with partner teams; executing gift agreements; managing and building the corporate membership program; organizing stewardship activations and engagement events; and collaborating with colleagues to leverage corporate participation in the events program. Responsibilities also include compliance with policies and guidelines, general correspondence and invitations, budget oversight, acknowledgements, and recordkeeping.
The incumbent plans and manages a calendar of engagement activity, including the timely submission of required reports and the delivery of benefits and activations. They collaborate with colleagues and volunteer leaders to elicit information, align proposals with upcoming program offerings and to fulfil reporting requirements. They identify growth areas and opportunities in the corporate sector. They track, analyze and report on fundraising results.
The incumbent will take on other duties as assigned, including representing the museum and interacting with a wide range of colleagues and supporters, participating in development-related special events that entail some evening and weekend hours.
